EES's Jennie Carr Wins "Thinkfinity" Award

Jennie Carr, 4th Grade teacher at Elkton Elementary School, was recently selected as one of two Region 5 winners of the 2011 Thinkfinity Teacher Excellence Award. She wins $1,000, an iPad with a Thinkfinity embossed cover, and travel expenses to the 2011 Educational Technology Leadership Conference at the Hotel Roanoke and Conference Center in Roanoke on November 7 where she will accept her award from Dr. Patricia I. Wright, Superintendent of Public Instruction, and Steve Clementi of the Verizon Foundation. At the conference, an overall Teacher of the Year will also be announced, chosen from the six winners. This winner will receive an extra $1,000 stipend.

(UPDATE: NOVEMBER 7, 2011 — At the conference, Mrs. Carr was named the 2011 Virginia Verizon Thinkfinity Teacher of the Year. Congratulations on this outstanding award!!)

“The judges were very impressed with your work. The lesson plans you provided demonstrated a wide variety of uses for the resources found in Thinkfinity as well as the skills of a truly great teacher! We are so pleased to recognize your skills and accomplishments,” said Jean Weller of the Virginia Department of Education’s Office of Educational Technology  in her congratulatory letter to Mrs. Carr.
